Most of my work, especially work done plein air, is done with micron pen and watercolor. One of my favorite things to do as an artist though it to experiment and play with new mediums. I occasionally use colored pencil, gouache paints, acrylics, and linoleum carvings and will often teach these additional mediums in workshops.

When my wife and I got married, I wanted to gift our bridal party something meaningful so I began painting places and experiences we had shared with each of them: the women’s march, a sunrise from the ski slopes, an old toolshed. It was such a ruminative project that I ended up painting tiny paintings for each of our guests to take home as a keepsake from our wedding, and more importantly, as a memory of a place or moment we shared with them.
I love painting at this scale. These tiny originals can capture the way being in the mountains, among the trees, or on the coast, can make you feel so small, as well as the deep connection we have to each other and the world around us.
